Emily Seitz
Research Assistant & Student CV
Emily is currently beginning her dissertation research, which explores the
ways in which literacy and reading practices are gendered phenomena. How
and why is literacy gendered and how are these gendered patterns
reproduced in the everyday lives of children? Moreover, what is the role
of school and public libraries in these processes? Since 2004, Emily's
doctoral studies have been supported by the Scholastic Corporation
Foundation Fellowship for the Study of School Libraries. As a recipient of
this fellowship, Emily has worked continuously with the Center for
International Scholarship on School Libraries. A graduate of SCILS' MLIS
program, Emily also has several years of experience as a professional
librarian, working in both reference and youth services in public
libraries. She enjoys working with youth and reading both children's and
young adult literature.
